The 5 Cs of comparing insurance

Compare the protection, not just the price

A strong insurance decision looks at five connected questions in order. Cost matters, but it makes sense only after you understand the company, coverage, contract, claims experience, and care behind it.

  1. Company

Review the carrier's overall financial strength, including its credit and ability to pay, track record, philosophy, and how it operates. Is it built to still be here and paying claims in ten years?

The Carrier Report Card adds public company and complaint context.

  2. Coverage

Understand what coverages and endorsements you are actually paying for. Two policies at the same price can protect very differently.

The Workers Comp and General Liability estimators show what drives coverage.

  3. Claims and Contract

Review the fine print, exclusions, claims manual, and how the claims team actually operates and is rated. This is how a carrier treats you when you need it most.

The Carrier Report Card shows public complaint data for claims context.

  4. Care

Decide who takes care of you day to day. You can do it yourself, use a captive agent who represents a single company and can only sell you that one, or work with an independent broker who shops the market and gives you choices. Consider how fast they provide proof of insurance, explain coverage, help you shop, handle paperwork, and whether they understand your business, customers, and community.

This is where an independent local broker wins.

  5. Cost

Compare premium, discounts, and fees last, on purpose. The cheapest policy that fails the first four Cs is the most expensive mistake.

The estimators give you an honest estimated cost range.

Common questions before you start

What does this site cost to use?
Nothing. The estimators and the Carrier Report Card are free and you do not have to give us your contact details to use them. If you want an exact price, a licensed agent will handle that, and you are never charged a fee for the shopping work.
What is an independent broker and why does it matter?
A captive agent can only offer you the one company they represent. An independent broker can place your business with many companies and is free to tell you when the right answer is somewhere else. That is the Care question in our 5 Cs, and it is the difference between being sold a policy and being helped to choose one.
Do you speak Vietnamese?
Yes. Every page on this site is available in Vietnamese, and you can call, text, or email in Vietnamese and get a Vietnamese speaking reply. Many of the businesses we work with are Vietnamese owned businesses in Orange County: contractors, restaurants, nail and beauty salons, strip mall retail, offices, and medical practices.
What are the 5 Cs of comparing insurance?
Company, Coverage, Claims and Contract, Care, and Cost, read in that order with price last on purpose. Most people compare on price alone, discover the exclusions at claim time, and conclude that insurance is a scam. Comparing in this order is how you avoid that.

If your situation is not on this list, call or text us. A licensed agent will walk you through it in English or Vietnamese, and there is no charge to ask.
